Youth Center Concept

Why do we need a youth center?

All Mosaic Youth Center programs  incorporate the youth asset building model based on the Search Institute's 40 Assets.  Robbinsdale Area Schools youth in grades 6-12 were given the Search Institute Assets Survey.  Unfortunately, many of the youth surveyed did not have strong, supportive connections with their communities and schools.

Just 21% of youth surveyed felt that their community valued youth, and 26% felt that their communities valued them as resources. Twenty-five percent of students surveyed felt that their school had a caring climate. Only 20% of youth participated in creative activities such as music or theater three or more hours each week. Less than half of the youth felt safe in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods. On average, youth indicated they possessed 17/40 essential developmental assets.

The Mosaic Youth Center strives to address the needs of our community's youth and build youth assets through high-quality
out-of-school time programming.  It is our hope that youth who are involved in the Mosaic programs will develop assets in the following areas: support, empowerment, constructive use of time, committment to learning, social competencies and positive identity.
